The males and females on this page exemplify what most old-style breeders search for *big bone, broad head, straight back and muscular appearance and overall very solid and ATHLETIC (see bottom of page) dogs. It is often a misconception that males that are 100 + lbs can't be athletic or have sound hips . In fact at least in my case I have had less problem with hips and other genetic conditions with these big old- fashioned lines then with the newer show or shutzhund lines that tend to be much smaller.(need proof that it is genetics and not size for good hip conformation? see here ..These large GSD's are a good example with OFA hips which were tested against other AKC german shepherds. In OFA the x-rays are compared to other members of it's own breed. For example a Newfoundland or a Bull dog who receives a good when copaired to its own breed, because its own breed tends to have poor hip conformation, if submitted as a GSD would probably not pass or maybe get a fair. Or vice -versa with a breed like a Borzia who tends to have very good hip conformation would likely get an excellent conformation if submitted as a GSD.Also Shiloh and King Shepherds that originated from these very old lines which were then crossed with other breeds and heavily imbred to retain the shepherd look are also compaired to other shilohs and kings not german shepherds. comformation tends to be poorer then there akc "purbred counter parts"

Now thats the old fashioned sleek coat look! less shedding? YES!!! unfortuantly these guys dry out more as inside dogs as well with the sleeker coat so more itches too.... Same with all breeds with a short sleek coat just humidify your house in winter and feed purina ONE with yogart!!! and an egg a day keeps itches away:)
